Creating a Shortcut

There is a simple trick to boost honey production - creating a small entrance between the supers that are above the queen excluder. Normally, bees must enter the deep super base and travel up through the brood chamber before working their way up into the honey supers. Once several supers have been added on to the hive, their journey can become congested and slow down honey storage.
By creating a small gap - just enough space for the worker bees to come and go - we provide the foragers a direct path to the supers. This shortcut saves energy, reduces wear on the brood chamber, and allows the bees to more efficiently fill the honey boxes. It's a small change that can lead to a noticeable improvement in honey yield and hive harmony.
